Our Mission
To reduce alcohol and marijuana abuse among youth and to prevent initiation into all drug use by
encouraging wise & healthy decisions by all community members
The Warwick Valley Prevention Coalition (WVPC) was initiated in 2009 by the joint efforts of the Warwick Valley Community Center and the Warwick Valley School District. The Town of Warwick Police Department joined the coalition shortly after it began. Both the police and the school district have remained committed to the coalition. Since its inception, the coalition has also received technical assistance from the NYS Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services through the Mid-Hudson Prevention Resource Center. Over its 8 years of existence, the WVPC has become a well-recognized resource for the Warwick Valley School District, parents, students, community members and the media looking for information and programs about alcohol and other drugs; including signs, symptoms, effects, and current local and national trends; youth violence and self-harm; and prevention tools.
In September 2016, Michael Botticelli, Director of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), announced $85.9 million in grants for 698 Drug-Free Communities (DFC) Support Programs across the country. The grants provide funding to local community coalitions for preventing youth substance use, including prescription drugs, marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol. In partnership, the Warwick Valley Prevention Coalition and Vernon Coalition received one of the three DFC Mentoring Grants awarded this year in the United States. The primary goal of the Mentoring grant is to assist the WVPC in becoming eligible to apply for DFC funding by completion of the two-year Mentoring grant. In addition, by working collaboratively, Warwick and Vernon are able to share resources and help get the message out in a comprehensive way.

Our Goals
- Create a community that supports healthy life styles that exclude underage drinking, abusive drinking, marijuana use, heroin use and abuse of prescription medications;
- Support prevention efforts in the school district by focusing on healthy lifestyle choices & skills;
- Create opportunities for youth to become role models and leaders in their communities;
- Increase the passage and enforcement of policies/laws that support non-use of alcohol by minors, responsible drinking by those over 21 and non-use of illegal substances; and
- Create work environments that support healthy lifestyle choices.

- Learn about committee work and progress
- Share information about projects or events
- Connect with other community members
- Discuss & develop solutions for community issues
- Request assistance/collaboration to address an issue
